Orange County Super Fair

We went to the fair because it seems un-American not to!

It was a blast - especially the animals...our favorite! And the food! Mmmmm - Giant turkey legs, corn on the cob and, of course, funnel cakes!

Here's a few of the pics

New Movie Updates

Wow! It's been a long time, I know! We've seen so many movies, we're just going to do a REAL quick overview of each one!

Harry Potter & The Half Blood
Prince

Way to much teenage love angst & not nearly enough magic - not even a Voldemort sighting! A huge majority of the book was left out of the film...notably a certain someone's very important funeral. Nonetheless, It is a Harry Potter film and I love it regardless; however, it doesn't even compare to the last two.

The Proposal

A great movie! So much fun! As for a summer romantic comedy, it's just about as good as it gets. We aren't talking Oscar Worthy here, but it is very funny and sweet and a bit of a different story than we are all so used to.

A Perfect Getaway
This is a story about a couple on their honeymoon in Hawaii during a murder spree.
Beautiful scenery...terrible movie. Micah specifically hates it when movies talk about movies in the movie - so he was irritated from the beginning. At times it is actually laughable and the "Big Twist" at the end is really nothing more than a slap in the face. Not only is it predictable, it also doesn't make very much sense! Skip it unless you are planning a trip to Puerto Rico or Jamaica (the two places they filmed it)

My Sister's Keeper
Cameron Diaz & Abigail Broslyn
Of course it is a tear-jerker...How could it not be! Anna Fitzgerald (age 10) looks to earn medical emancipation from her parents who until now have relied on their youngest child to help their leukemia-stricken daughter Kate remain alive.
I was anticipating a cheesey, made for TV Lifetime movie - It's not! It's wonderful! I normally could pass on Cameron Diaz - but she does an amazing job as the mom - not glamerous and often times actually looking as if she were loosing a child. Great acting and a wonderful story. The sick sister comes off a little too "Holier than Thou" but I get it and it works. That is my only somewhat negative comment. Wait, I do have one more negative comment: Bring Kleenx - if you don't, you will be stuck walking away with a sleeve full of snot and tears!

The Orphan
Asside from the super cute daughter (prettiest kid you've EVER seen - worth it to just see her!)- The first 2/3 of the movie is familiar and has been done a million times before. It does have a good twist towards the end which make it better than "The Good Son" with McCauly Caulkin. And the third act (last 20 minutes) is pretty suspensful and fun. If you don't like horror movies, don't bother. If you do, rent it.

GUILTY PLEASURES - Baby just say YES

***FYI*** A 'Guilty Pleasure' is defined as anything that you do that is at least a wee bit embarrassing.  If you were meeting the coolest person in the world... this is probably not the first thing that you would tell them about yourself!
(Here's a little inspiration if needed)  http://www.momversation.com/episodes/guilty-pleasure

Come on...We all have them. Post a comment with your worst guilty pleasures. For every one of yours, I'll post one of mine.

I'll start first -
I can listen (ok; Blast) Taylor Swift (especially Love Story) over & over & over & over again singing in my car at the top of my lungs with my headset in so (hopefully) people think I'm just yelling at someone on the phone!

Celebrity Sighting

Living in LA & working in Beverly Hills presents itself with plenty of celebrity sightings. We'll try to fill you in when it happens!

David & Victoria Beckham in their new $275,000 Alfa Romeo 8C.

We were driving down Rodeo at about 9:45am on Sunday morning and noticed a guy snapping pictures when we stopped at a stoplight. We glanced over and saw the Beckhams using our Camry as a paparazzi shield.

Always glad to help!

Mexicoke

What can be more American than Coca~Cola?

Here in Los Angeles, we have a choice: Original Coca~Cola or MexiCoke

MexiCoke is Coca~Cola bottled in Mexico and imported here.

Apparently, MexiCoke has had a cultish following for years now. Fans swear it tastes better than U.S.-made Coke because it uses natural cane sugar as a sweetener instead of high-fructose corn syrup.
And of course it is kind of cool to drink out of a glass bottle as opposed to plastic!
Well we did a blind taste test and the verdict is:

Original Coca~Cola
Although MexiCoke has a great, less sugary taste, the original is what's 'normal' in our opinion = Very difficult to compare the two, they should be completely separate beverages. There you have it.

Star Trek

Star Trek

Starring: No one important (except Leonard Nimoy - the original Spock)
Directed by: J.J. Abrams (Creator of Lost, Alias & Felicity)

What it's About:
A chronicle of the early days of James T. Kirk and his fellow USS Enterprise crew members. A pre-qual that starts during Kirk & Spock's childhood and follows them through schooling and their first days on the USS Enterprise.

Micah's Take: Good (enough) It is no Dark Knight!

Kim's Take: Egh (with a shoulder shrug) -It ain't no Batman Begins!

Our Take: Originally Kim was NOT into this movie at all - She's never seen a Star Trek episode or movie and life was fine. But it was touted as a Star Trek that everyone would enjoy so we decided to give it a try. It was decent. Not great - Not horrible. Some cool special effects and the music/sound design was great. We enjoyed the insight into learning about Spock and Kirk's back story and their early relationship.

Better Left on the Cutting Room Floor:
A lot of annoying intentional flares & glares - we get it...they are in space, by the sun & it is bright - but come on. And Micah was extremely irate about Kirk chewing an apple during a simulated test.

It's A Wrap
Rent...(or not) - your call

Happy 31st Birthday, Micah

Happy Birthday, Micah!

On Saturday, June 27, Micah turned the big 3-1; surviving his first year into his thirties!

We had a great day! We went to a psychic on Melrose in Hollywood where Micah got a Viking Runes, Tarot Cards, & a Crystal Ball psychic reading. Very interesting and a little creepy.

Then we met Lindsey, Matthew & Erin out at Vinoteca - a cute little wine bar in Los Feliz for some real good beers and awesome fancy appetizers.

To top the night off, we went to the Arclight (worlds greatest movie theater) to finally see Star Trek. (Check back for a review of it soon!)

His gift: New running shoes!

All in all - a great, relaxing birthday.
